The Danish Armed Forces conducted the Arctic Light 2025 exercises in Greenland and surrounding areas, involving more than 550 military personnel from NATO countries.
The operation, carried out between September 9 and 19, included naval, land, air, and special forces maneuvers, highlighting the allies’ joint capabilities under extreme weather conditions.
Denmark deployed a frigate, F-16 fighter jets, helicopters, transport aircraft, and territorial defense units, while France contributed a warship, a refueling aircraft, and mountain infantry troops with drones. Sweden, Norway, and Germany participated by providing personnel, observers, and logistical support, with training that included live-fire exercises, special operations, and cold-weather drills.
In addition to military exercises, the operation also strengthened civil-military cooperation. A large search and rescue exercise off the coast of Greenland tested coordination between the allies and local authorities, demonstrating the importance of integrating military and civilian forces in complex scenarios.
